At Monarx, we prioritize the stability and security of your web hosting environment. Because our agent operates at a deep system level to intercept threats in real-time, it requires a highly consistent operating environment.
To ensure maximum uptime and performance for our hosting partners and their customers, Monarx exclusively supports Ubuntu LTS (Long Term Support) versions.
The LTS Commitment: Why We Focus on Stability
Web hosting is the backbone of the internet, and stability is paramount. Ubuntu releases a new version every six months, but only the even-numbered April releases (e.g., 22.04, 24.04) are designated as Long Term Support (LTS).
LTS versions are maintained for 5 to 10 years, providing a "predictable" target for security software. By focusing on LTS, we ensure that the Monarx agent remains compatible with the core system libraries and kernels that your servers rely on for years at a time.
Supported Ubuntu Versions
As of April 2026, Monarx supports the following 64-bit Ubuntu distributions:
Ubuntu 26.04 LTS (Resolute Raccoon): Fully supported (Newest release).
Ubuntu 24.04 LTS (Noble Numbat): Fully supported.
Ubuntu 22.04 LTS (Jammy Jellyfish): Fully supported.
Ubuntu 20.04 LTS (Focal Fossa): Supported (ESM recommended).
Why "Interim" Versions (like Ubuntu 25.10 "Questing Quokka") are Not Supported
Ubuntu releases "interim" versions every October and every other April (such as 24.10, 25.04, and 25.10 "Questing Quokka"). These versions are designed for users who want the absolute latest features, but they only receive 9 months of support.
⚠️ Monarx does not support Questing Quokka or other interim releases for several reasons:
Kernel Volatility: These versions often use experimental kernels that can lead to instability when running deep-system security hooks.
Short Life Cycles: A version that goes End-of-Life in 9 months is not a suitable foundation for a production web hosting environment.
Installation Failures: If you attempt to install the Monarx agent on a non-LTS version, the installation will likely fail due to library mismatches (glibc versioning) or unsupported kernel headers.
What should I do if I’m on a non-LTS version?
If you are currently running an interim version like Ubuntu 25.10, we strongly recommend migrating your web hosting environment to an LTS release (such as 26.04 or 24.04). This ensures that you can utilize Monarx’s full security suite and that your server remains eligible for critical OS security patches over the long term.
For help checking your current version, you can run the following command in your terminal: lsb_release -a
